What is Magnetic Therapy?
Magnetic therapy is a holistic method using magnets to treat an ailment any where on the body. Magnetic therapy uses bracelets, rings, necklaces, jewelry, spot magnets, wraps, braces, mattress pads and insoles to attempt to assist the ailment.
How does Magnetic Therapy works?
Today, clinics and institutions believe that magnets may improve blood flow to the area where the magnet is placed. This may sound logical because magnets are attracted to iron we have in our blood. Magnets may increase circulation by attracting either the positive or negative particles in the blood depending on the pole facing the skin. This may speed up oxygen carried through out the body's blood vessels, which promotes a faster healing process. No side effects have been reported from using magnets. The stronger the gauss surface strength the larger the magnetic field is. The magnetic field is not visable to the naked eye but rest assured magnetic therapy is still flowing through the body. It has been found that 80% of the people that have tried magnetic therapy have had positive results.
Possible Benefits of Magnetic Therapy
- May help alleviate pain, bruising and swelling
- May improve arthritis in joints
- May reduce cramping
- May reduce stress and depression
- May improve circulation to extremities of body
- May help sleep habits
- May speed recovery of injuries such as breaks, sprains, (sports injuries)
- May reduce migraine and headache pain
- May improve over all health
- May help improve PH levels inside the body
- All living things may see a benefit from magnets: humans, pets, horses and plants.
Types of Magnets?
If you decide to try magnetic therapy you need to know there are different types of magnets. We carry Neodymium, Ceramic, and Hematite magnets. The Neodymium magnets we utilize are N50 Grade rare earth magnet. Neodymium magnets are placed in our stainless steel bracelets, necklaces, insoles and some support products. Ceramic magnets are placed in many of our magnetic support products and mattress and other magnetic pads. Most of the Hematite magnets are used in our fashion jewelry line and some insoles. Neodymium magnets are commonly used for spot magnets and acupressure point magnets. We rate our magnets in gauss surface strength. The first part of magnetic therapy is determining the type of application for the problem area. Is the magnetic strength penetrating deep enough to reach the problem area? You will need to assess the area of pain. Here is an approximate rule of thumb to see if the magnet you are using is strong enough for the problem area.
- 6000 Gauss will penetrate approx. 5 inches
- 5000 Gauss will penetrate approx. 4 inches
- 4000 Gauss will penetrate approx. 3 inches
- 3000 Gauss will penetrate approx 2.5 inches
- 2500 Gauss will penetrate approx 2 inches
- 1000 gauss will penetrate approx. 1 inch
(All of the penetration levels are approximate and may vary depending on the density of the muscle, bone or ligament and where you are putting them on the body)
Neodymium magnets- Neodymium magnets consist of three elements (Iron, boron, Neodymium). Neodymium Magnets are compressed under heat and coated with gold plating (Gold Plating is hypoallegentic) or nickel plating. Neodymium magnets will last up to 200 years. Neodymium magnets are the strongest type of permanent magnet available. We have sizes ranging from 3mm to 1 inch in diameter. Neodymium magnets can be used in many applications all over the body for magnetic therapy.
Ceramic or Ferrite magnets- are made of iron oxide and barium or strontium carbonate. These magnets are blackish grey in color. Ceramic magnets are lower in cost and lower in gauss rating.
People with the following conditions should not use magnets
- If you have a pacemaker or contain any device inside your body with a battery powering the device.
- (Magnets will erase any information on them.)
- Pregnant Women
DO NOT PUT MAGNETS CLOSE TO CREDIT CARDS, VCR TAPES, (This will erase any information on them)
